Honeymoon-Day 7

...Or day 6, depending on how you look at it. See, here in Chiang Mai, Thailand, it's 9:11am on Sunday, March 9th, but back home it's 6:11pm on Saturday, March 8th. Either way, we're in Thailand!!

After a very long series of flights, Jess and I finally arrived in Bangkok on Tuesday and tried our best to stay up as late as possible. That turned out to be 6:30pm. Before heading to bed that night, we took our lives into our own hands by taking a taxi from the airport to our hostel on Khao San Rd. See link for a very similar example of driving in Thailand:

During our 2 days in Bangkok, we took a long-tail boat ride along the river, went to the grand palace, saw a number of temples (or Wats in Thai), did a lot of walking, and bought some really cheap clothes! You'll see Jess wearing his most prized new shirt in nearly all of our honeymoon pics once they're up.

So far, we've gone through nearly 2GB of picture storage so we bought another photo card yesterday. I can't wait to show everyone all of our sweet pictures.

We left Bangkok on Thursday and arrived at our amazing hotel in Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. This place is sweet. Jess never wants to leave. During our time in Chiang Mai, we've both gotten 2 massages each. It's only $6 for an hour massage! We plan to get many more before our time in Thailand is through.

Our first full day in Chiang Mai, we were picked up by a trekking service we had purchased in Bangkok. We were joined on our trek by 2 Swedes and 2 Ausies. We started with a 1 hr elephant ride!!!! Then we went for a short hike to some of the Karin villages in the hills and saw a cool waterfall. Jess, one of the Ausies and I swam in the freezing pool underneath the falls. Jess and the Ausie jumped in voluntarily, but my wonderful husband decided for me that I was going in. Luckily I had taken the camera and my shoes off already.

The next part of the adventure was an hour long bamboo raft ride with a driver who was much more interested in getting us wet and tipping over any boat we passed than driving the boat. His laugh was very reminiscent of Scooby Doo. It was really entertaining.

Yesterday, our last full day in Chiang Mai, we rented a moped and went up to a huge Wat in the hills 16 km outside of town. It was so amazing up there! So far, Jess and I both really prefer northern Thailand to the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. We've gone to some amazing markets and though we're looking forward to heading to the beach today, we're sad to leave this wonderful place.

More adventures to come. Promise. :)
